Gorey Sprint and Relay Triathlon – Sunday 13th July 2014

Dear all

Hope you are well recovered from this weekend’s efforts and raring to go for the Sprint and Relay Triathlon planned on Sunday July 13!!!

We are planning to hold this as a ‘fun’ and relaxed event, albeit still very much a race!!

It kicks off at 7:30am at Longbeach, Gorey and is open to a team of three or a single athlete completing a sprint distance with both races running concurrently (that means at the same time Simon).

Individual athletes

  • Standard sprint distance, standard format (15 years +).

Team athletes

  • Non ITU relay race format (11 years +).
  • Cumulative (that means total Simon) distance equal to a Sprint triathlon.
  • Each team is made up of three members and can be mixed age groups and gender split although this isn’t mandatory.
  • Team members will take it in turn to complete each discipline before progressing to the next (i.e. – each team member takes it in turn to swim, then the first swimmer will be the first cyclist and each member then take it in turn to cycle, and again the first swimmer does the run and each member then takes it in turn to run.  Order of events therefore is swim x 3, bike x 3 and run x 3).
  • The combined relay distance will be equal to a Sprint Distance Triathlon.
  • Map Information: Gorey Relay and Sprint

Other

  • Register in Long Beach car park at 0630am for a 7am race brief, in the water at 0730am latest.
  • We will give full details of the route on the day, but the swim will be in Grouville Bay (starting at Long Beach) the cycle route will head out and back in an easterly direction and the run will be on and around Gorey Common.  Rough maps attached.
  • This race will be free to all club members, under 18’s and entrants and marshals from last weekend’s Olympic and Super Sprint triathlon.

As mentioned, this race is intended to be competitive yet fun.  We welcome junior and senior entries and mixed teams and are hoping to attract as many spectators as possible by running multiple loops of Gorey Common as part of the run route.

As usual, we need……marshals!  Please volunteer if you’re free…  And we need an organiser to officiate (that means oversee Simon) proceedings, not a challenging role – but without it we have no race…again volunteers welcome!

We already have our first team entry made up from some of your ever diligent and athletic Committee.  Vaughan, Simon and I are likely to beat everyone but please don’t let that stop you having a go….Apparently Demri Mitchell, Ollie Turner and Brad Rose are going to try but us seasoned professionals will trounce you whippersnappers…

Freshly recovered from last weekends podium finish @ Eton Dorney, Ollie Turner (supported by his family) will be selling some fund raising cakes and coffees during and after the race.  It’s a fund raiser for the le Rocquier students cycle challenge from Paris to Jersey to help raise funds for the Jersey Stroke Association.  Please support this very worthy cause by buying, and then eating your body weight in cake as well as drinking copious amounts of coffee…(If you wish to eat cake whilst you race, please do so at your own risk).
Keep an eye out for the coffee and cake stall on the day, should contribute towards making it a great event!

Any questions – please shout and look forward to seeing you there!

Matt

– PS – If anyone has spare race belts, please ring them along as they will serve as the ‘baton’ after the swim.

– PPS – A club member is taking part in this weekend’s charity ride…does anyone have a road bike that they would lend to a 5’3” female?

– PPPS – if anyone has any marshal vests from the weekend please bring them along to the race.
